A New Video and Conversation Series About Life in France
A New Way to Connect: The French Footsteps Video & Talk Series
There’s a new chapter beginning on French Footsteps — and this time, we’ll take the steps together. Join me in a conversation about moving to France.
For years, readers have asked me what it really takes to move to France — not just the dream, but the details that make it a reality. The visas. The housing. The taxes, healthcare, and day-to-day tasks.

Through a new video series and our live conversations, we’ll explore those questions and more. The first video (see below) is my introduction to this new feature. In it, I share why I created French Footsteps and how the next step will bring you closer to the people, resources, and information that can help make your dream of a move to France a reality.
Now that the series is starting, you’ll find the videos on the Barefoot Blogger YouTube channel, on “French Footsteps” on Spotify, and soon on French Footsteps at Substack.
What This New Feature Is About
The goal of the video series is to have a conversation about moving to France and what it truly means to move or retire in France.
Each video episode and blog post will focus on a key topic — from visas and housing to taxation, healthcare, and insurance. And there are Zoom calls where you can meet the experts who helped me on my journey to living here.
You’ll also hear from others who’ve already made the move — Americans and others who’ve navigated the process, settled into their communities, and can share what they’ve learned along the way.
This isn’t a lecture series. It’s a conversation — a space to ask, to learn, and to connect.
How to Join the Conversation
It starts with your questions.
What do you want to know about moving to France? What’s holding you back?
Whether you’re dreaming of retiring here, working remotely, or spending part of the year in France, your questions will guide our next topics.
You can share your questions in any of these ways:
- In the comments section below this blog post
- On the French Footsteps Facebook group page
- By email at FrenchFootsteps@icloud.com
Over the coming weeks, we’ll address each subject through Zoom calls with experts who know France, including visa, real estate, tax, insurance, and healthcare advisors, as well as expats who’ve already made the leap.
Why This Matters
Moving to France isn’t just about logistics; it’s about embracing a new culture. It’s about building a life. It’s about understanding how the French system works, yes, but also about finding your place, your community, and your sense of belonging.
Through French Footsteps, my goal has always been to help you take those steps with confidence and understanding. This new video and conversation series is an extension of that vision. It’s a way to share real insight and authentic experience, person to person.
It’s This Simple

Ask Questions
Every journey starts with a single question. Yours might just be the one that helps others, too.
So, tell me: What would you like to know about moving to or retiring in France?
Let’s Begin!
Leave a comment here, or send an email to FrenchFootsteps@icloud.com, or put a message on the French Footsteps Facebook page. Together, we’ll begin your journey toward a new life in France!
I’m looking forward to meeting you!

I’m struggling with choosing a region to live in! it’s such a big country. so to travel and spend weeks still wouldn’t necessarily be enough to find out what area would be my favorite.

What ways do you recommend to find housing?
I don’t intend to have a car. I will need a city/town/village with a train station to get around. Suggestions?
I speak some French, but will need more study/practice. What is the easiest way to access a tutor/class?
