I’m off ! With my son driving and my daughter-in-law in the front seat, Iโm making yet another trip back and forth to my new life in France. My fourteen month old grandson and I held hands all the way to the airport. Those little hands won’t be so tiny on my next visit to see family.ย
After packing the last of my travel stuff last night, fortunately I had the foresight to look at my air tickets. Lo and behold, there is one more leg to my flight than I remembered. On the way to Baltimore there is a stop in Charlotte. That makes 4-legs to this economy flight to Paris. Remind me I’m saving money!
Airport purchase
While I thought I was packing wisely into one carry-on bag that I could stow under the seat. I realized at the airport that the bag is too heavy. A stop at Brookstone solved the problem. Now a folding cart is my new travel companion. It’s enabling me to use my big, zippered handbag instead of a carry-on and “one personal item.”
I’ll let you know how that’s working out for me along the way.ย
Transporting “valuables”
Packing lightly for visits back and forth to France isn’t my forte. Each trip I send boxes of stuff through Fedex. This time there were 3 boxes each 16×20″.
While holding the boxes together to tape them, my son mentioned that the cartons were not the same as used before. Not “heavy duty.”
“Oops! I exclaimed as he explained how the boxes, already bulging at the seams, would arrive in France in a heap. All I could say is: “Wrap them in extra plastic wrap so they’ll stay together, at least.”
He warned they’ll be squashed.
“Not to worry,” says I, thinking to myself: โWith all the extra plastic wrap, if the boxes are dropped, they’ll bounce.โ
Cutting up with seat mates
Finally on my way, it wasnโt long before I realized my adventure had already begun. Sitting next to me on the flight from Atlanta to Charlotte was a craftsman who makes specialty knives for kings and rock stars. Bon voyage!
