Fête Votive in Uzès. The Finale

Another Uzès Fête Votive has concluded successfully. Although the weather could have been better for some of the events, the crowd’s spirit was hardly dampened.

The final days and nights of the annual festival were filled with more bulls, horses, men, and young boys and girls running through the streets. While the opportunity for disaster was always possible with the huge animals galloping down the busy road, it was amazing how there were no injuries to man or beast. It makes me wonder about the running of the bulls in Pamplona. Is it tamer than we think? If so, would it draw the crowds?

Saying I was in the middle of the road waiting for the bulls to rush at me, it’s not a joke. Guess it was fool’s luck that there wasn’t a wayward bull that pulled away from the herd. The energy was palpable as spectators lined the streets, eager to witness the thrilling spectacle. The skill of the riders and the coordination of the young men and women running alongside the bulls was truly impressive. The careful planning and tradition behind these events ensured that everyone, both human and animal, remained safe despite the apparent chaos.

Has this given me the courage for Pamplona next year?

Only time will tell.

Uzès Fête Votive: Memorable Moments

Attending all the Fête Votive activities would have been difficult for anyone. I squeezed in as many as possible. That said, my favorite events were the crowd scenes — the running of the bulls, the parades, and the brass bands that appeared almost everywhere you’d go around the village.

Brass Bands Bring the Festive Spirit

One of the most charming aspects of the Uzès Fête Votive was the presence of brass bands. These bands seemed to be everywhere, playing lively tunes that added to the festive atmosphere. Whether they were on the sidewalks, in the streets, or heading to a local café, the music was infectious.

  • Sidewalk Serenades: Brass bands would set up on the sidewalks, serenading passersby with vibrant music. It was impossible not to tap your feet or sway to the rhythm as you walked by.
  • Street Performances: In the heart of the village, brass bands played in the streets, drawing crowds who cheered and danced along. The music created a sense of unity and joy that was felt by all.
  • Intimate Moments: There were moments when the brass bands would head to a local watering hole, playing all the way. These spontaneous performances brought the music up close and personal, making the experience even more memorable.

The Uzès Fête Votive wasn’t just about the lively events; it was also a celebration of art and culture. Artists displayed their work throughout the village, adding a layer of beauty and creativity to the festival.

A Community Effort

It takes a whole village to pull off an event like the Fête Votive. From setting up barricades for the bull runs to cleaning up after the parades, the community’s effort was evident at every turn. The sense of pride in their tradition was inspiring.
