Dream of Living in France? Introducing French Footsteps

Dear Barefoot Blogger Readers,

Dream of living in France? For years, I’ve shared my story of France with you—the ups, downs, and adventures—from navigating life in Uzès to exploring the stunning corners of France and beyond. Many of you have reached out to me with questions about how I made the move, what challenges I faced, and how you might follow a similar path. I would like to introduce you to French Footsteps, a newsletter dedicated to helping others navigate the path to living in France.

French Footsteps: Your Guide to Moving To France

French Footsteps is a new Barefoot Blogger publication designed specifically for those considering or planning a move to France. It’s my way of offering more structured guidance to those on this journey.

Here’s what you can expect from French Footsteps:

  • Practical Advice: Each issue will offer step-by-step guides and tips on essential topics like securing a visa, finding a home, understanding the French healthcare system, and more. It’s about giving you the tools to make informed decisions and avoid common pitfalls.
  • Real-Life Stories and Insight: While not every issue will feature a personal story, you’ll hear from Americans who have moved to France—sharing their experiences, both the highs and the challenges. Plus, you’ll be able to ask questions and get answers from those who’ve already made the leap.
  • Trusted Resources: While this isn’t a one-stop shop for all expat needs, I’ll highlight reliable resources and businesses that can assist you no matter where you plan to settle in France.

The Barefoot Blogger Will Continue

Rest assured, the Barefoot Blogger isn’t going anywhere. I’ll continue sharing the stories you’ve come to love—capturing the quirks and charms of daily life in France, travels throughout Europe, and the tips I’ve gathered along the way. If you haven’t noticed, the blog posts live on a Barefoot Blogger website. Please take a look. Let me know what you think, and if you will, share it with a friend who loves France. I genuinely appreciate every new follower who joins our group of francophiles.

Separate Subscriptions

Please note that the Barefoot Blogger and French Footsteps are two separate subscriptions. If you enjoy receiving the Barefoot Blogger by email, you don’t need to do anything—just keep reading! However, if you want to receive French Footsteps by email and gain access to this new resource for aspiring expats, you’ll need to subscribe below.

I’m thrilled to embark on this new project and to continue sharing my journey with all of you in both spaces. Whether you dream of moving to France or simply love following along with my life here, I hope you’ll subscribe to both the Barefoot Blogger and French Footsteps.

    1. Thank you, Leslie. I hope that it will be useful to you. Please stay in touch and let me know anything that might help you. I’m so happy to have you onboard!

  1. Looks like an interesting partnership Deborah. Does he help search in Paris? Montpellier?
What are his charges for apartment searches? Does he also help with visa related issues? Or should I ask him these questions?

    1. Hi Sandra, I’m happy to hear from you. Yes, Pierre’s services can be very helpful to those looking to move to France. He is real estate only. Yes, you should contact him directly. Please use the link on the post. Stay in touch!

  2. Bon courage, chère Deborah!! Tu es femme ambitieuse et généreuse. On hâte de te revoir en janvier! Nous avons loué un apartment près de Grasse…pas trop loin d’Uzès ❤️🇫🇷

  3. Hello Deborah, I have followed and loved your blog for years and celebrated your French experiences with you. I was pleased to read about your new addition French Footsteps and was about to sign up until I realised that it didn’t apply to me. The message it gives is very clear, that it is for Americans only even though you say
it is for ex-pats. Not every ex-pat who subscribes to your blog is American and so I feel French Footsteps excludes many of us. Consequently, I no longer feel welcome on your blog.

    1. Oh, Annie. Your note breaks my heart. I don’t want to loose you. Perhaps you can help me solve this problem so that other followers outside the U.S. won’t feel I’ve abandoned them. I started the French Footsteps newsletter because so many people wrote to me and look to me for advice on moving to France. Since I am American, I don’t feel qualified to respond based on anything else but my experience as an American, hence, the newsletter. I felt that giving readers a chance to subscribe to two publications— the US-focused French Footsteps newsletter and/or the Barefoot Blogger posts — they could make their own choice. Apparently, I failed to make that clear enough. I appreciate your note and I would especially like your feed back. Do you have a thought about how I could have gone about that better? If you don’t care to respond, that’s ok. Please know that I cherish each follower and it pains me to lose you.
