Thirteen years ago this week, moving to France was still an adventure. Movers were hauling armoires, Victorian chests, a marble tabletop, and a king-size mattress up 55 winding steps to my new apartment in a 13th-century building. One of them looked at the staircase and called it “l’ascension.” I wrote a post I want to share with you again called “The Big Move-In Day in Uzès“
I thought I was writing about moving day. Looking back, I was writing about the beginning of something I couldn’t possibly have understood then—moving to France, with all its ups, downs, surprises, and changes along the way.

Moving to France looks different now
I don’t live in that apartment anymore. A lot has happened since that October day—different homes, new friends, thousands of miles of travel, a few hard knocks, and more adventures than I could have imagined when I arrived with all that furniture. But I’m still in France, still in Uzès. Still writing. Still traveling. Still curious.
Read “The Big Move-In Day in Uzès,“ written in October 2013.

Thirteen years. Hundreds of stories.
Every week, I’ll go back through the Barefoot Blogger archives to rediscover one story from this week in years past. This one caught me. Another one might catch you.
Curious? Wander through the archive. You never know what story might find you.
